Privacy Policy

How we look after your information. Plain words, no tricks.

Last updated: 4 October 2026 (draft)

We would like to be upfront about your information, in plain words. The short version: we collect very little, we only use it for what we say here, and you can ask us about it at any time.

1. Who we are

This website (cician.co.za) is run by Ci Cian™ (“Ci Cian”, “we”, “us”), a South African brand. Under POPIA, we are the responsible party for your personal information.

2. What we collect, and why

WhatWhyWhen
Your email addressTo send you the Ci Cian newsletter (news about songs, stories and products).Only if you join the newsletter, once it opens. It is not open yet.
Your email address, name and messageTo read and reply to you.Only if you email us.
Basic technical data (for example your IP address, browser type and the pages requested)To deliver the website securely and fix problems. This is normally kept in server logs by our hosting provider [to confirm].Automatically, when you visit.

We do not ask for your name, phone number, ID number or payment details on this website. We do not use advertising trackers. At the time of writing this site does not set cookies and does not use analytics. If that changes, we will update this page first.

3. Our lawful reason

For the newsletter, we rely on your consent. You can withdraw it at any time, and every newsletter will have an unsubscribe link. For replying to emails and keeping the website running, we rely on our legitimate interest in doing so, and on taking steps you ask us to take.

4. Google Fonts

To make the site look the way Cian likes it, our pages load fonts (Caveat, Nunito and Playfair Display) from Google Fonts. When your browser fetches them, it connects to Google servers (fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com), so Google receives your IP address and basic browser details. Google handles that under its own privacy policy. We do not send Google anything else.

5. Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal information. Some of these providers may store data outside South Africa. Where they do, we will make sure that the country or the contract gives your information protection similar to POPIA, as section 72 of POPIA requires.

6. How long we keep it

Newsletter emails: until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them. Emails you send us: only as long as needed to deal with your message, then deleted or archived securely. Server logs: kept by our host for a short period [to confirm].

7. Children

Cian is a bear that kids love, but the newsletter and contact form are for adults (parents, guardians and teachers). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 18 without the consent of a parent or guardian. If you think a child has sent us their details, email us and we will delete them.

8. Keeping it safe

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information, including HTTPS. No system is perfectly safe, and if there is a breach that affects you, we will tell you and the Information Regulator as POPIA requires.

9. Your rights

Under POPIA you can ask us to:

Email hello@cician.co.za [to confirm] and we will respond as soon as we reasonably can. You can also unsubscribe from the newsletter at any time using the link in every email.

10. Complaints: the Information Regulator

We would like the chance to fix things first, but you always have the right to complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa):

11. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top. If the change is big, we will say so on the website or by email.

12. Contact us

Questions about this policy? Email hello@cician.co.za [to confirm]. See also our Terms of Use.
